About Our Founder – David Velastegui

David Velastegui is the Founder and Academy Director of TOCA Pro FC, bringing a rare blend of elite playing experience, global perspective, and high-performance leadership to youth development in Canada. A former Canadian Youth National Team player and National Arena Team member, David’s playing career spanned professional environments across North America, South America, and the Caribbean, shaping his deep understanding of the modern game and what it takes to succeed at the highest levels.

David made history as the first Canadian to play and score in the LDF Professional League, and his collegiate career was equally distinguished. As captain of Sheridan College, he led the program to its first-ever Canadian National Championship, earning All-Canadian CCAA honours and establishing himself as the all-time leading goal scorer in Sheridan Bruins history. His career also included professional appearances in the MASL and leadership roles within elite futsal and outdoor programs.

Beyond his playing career, David has emerged as one of Canada’s most respected youth development leaders. As the technical architect behind TOCA Pro FC, he has built a high-performance academy environment that emphasizes long-term player development, accountability, and opportunity. Under his leadership, TOCA programs have produced over 60 youth championships in recent years, while more importantly creating pathways for players to access national, professional, and international opportunities.

In 2026, David led TOCA Pro FC into an official partnership with Villarreal CF, one of Europe’s most respected academies. The collaboration marks Villarreal CF’s first affiliate in Toronto and provides Canadian players and coaches with direct access to elite European methodology, training camps in Spain, international tournaments, and technical evaluations by Villarreal staff. The partnership is deeply personal for David, having previously played alongside current Villarreal first-team player Tajon Buchanan, reinforcing his belief that Canadian players can thrive on the global stage.

Driven by a passion to give back to the game, David continues to mentor players and coaches while pursuing advanced technical education with the goal of contributing to Canada’s national pathway. His philosophy is simple but powerful: build strong environments, develop confident players, and open doors that allow talent to believe bigger than ever before.

Our goal is to offer Canada's premier player development experience. With a focus on collaboration and innovation, we provide access to elite competition and extensive training opportunities. Our mission goes beyond the field; we're dedicated to preparing players for both athletic and life success.

In our competitive environment, players engage in daily challenges that drive their growth. Guided by the principle that "iron sharpens iron," we’re proud to have a roster of top players who are eager to elevate each other’s game. We believe that the most significant growth happens during practice, so we emphasize consistent, high-quality training. With alternating coaches during practices and a focus on tactical skill development through intra-squad matches, we aim to refine both offensive and defensive strategies.

Our goal is to create an environment that is both enjoyable and challenging, setting us apart from others. We focus on individual growth and the development of strong character through football. Drawing from our experiences as former players, we’ve designed our program to reflect what we would have valued as young athletes. If we’re not enthusiastic about training, we don’t expect our players to be either. As a result, our facilities, equipment, and overall program WILL meet the highest standards.
